Couple of tracks for your consideration

I have no idea where we will take this yet, but we will need it eventually! Background music, lasers, engines, you name it.

Couple of tracks for your consideration

Postby amplitudeproblem » Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:17 pm

Hi everyone!

I was thrilled to learn about the community taking over this project. I can't wait to play this game! :D

I'm a musician and coder and chose to join the Sound Group here on the forums. I went to Musicians Institute in LA in the early 90s and have been making music, primarily as a hobby, since then (mostly writing code for a living). I was the musician in the Swedish Atari ST demo crew Sync way back when, going by the handle 7an. I use Reason and Renoise when I'm not just playing the piano or harmonica. Per the instructions here on the forum, I've prepared two different tracks, each in a completely different style.

The first one is meant to fade in after a period of silence, Minecraft style. Because this is a space epic, it soon goes beyond the simplicity of Minecraft, trying to put the player in a sound environment hinting at the vastness of the universe. Because of the 1:30 limit, it pretty much ends right when it gets going. I intend to finish this track regardless of whether it's included or not; the rest is already in my head.

The second track is a different animal altogether. It's an up-tempo chip-tune, invoking the retro mood of the game. I picture it triggering when the player is in hot pursuit of a smaller space ship through an asteroid field, while the onboard computer is on fire. :) Stressful and fast paced, yet retaining a good sense of humor.

Thanks for listening and for allowing me to offer you these tracks.

Hi clonk -- I'm just about to run to a meeting. Can we chat this evening? I'm on US Pacific time.

An example of what a cinematic intro/trailer might sound like, opening up to epic pans across space ships, stars and planets and eventually diving into game play as it gets going.

WARNING: radio static! Turn down your speakers a bit. This one is noisy and not exactly music for the ears, but it's fun nonetheless if you listen for the obscured desperation hiding in these 90 seconds of intergalactic radio static, created using synthesizers, some effects and a microphone. See if you can find the SOS signal. What's the call for help?

GUI sounds! The following loop is a simulation of the player moving through the menus. There are sounds for hover, select, back/escape, alert and error. The are designed to be harmonic with the cinematic and forthcoming main theme.
