Developer Forums Permissions Change

Postby Eximius » Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:22 am

To better organize and prevent spam, some changes have been made to the permissions of the Developer section of the forum.

In short, the Developer section is now read-only to anyone who is not in one of the developer usergroups and is not accessible to guests.. These usergroups indicate which development teams you are a part of (programming, writing, art, etc). In order to join a team, go to the User Control Panel -> User Groups and then check which group you wish to join. You may do this for each group applicable to you. This application will then be approved by the Development Group Leader, or a forum admin. This gives you permissions to post in all of the Development Forums.

The General forums (including the Discussion and Ideas, Concepts, and Suggestions forums) are still open to the public.

Rationale: we want to remain open, so people will be accepted into the groups very freely. However, should they prove to be spammers or hostile to the rest of the community, they can be removed from the user groups to keep the Developer forums clean.

I think this is a good change, but I have a suggestion for one enhancement.

Is it possible to make a single forum in each section any member of any other developer group can post to? The purpose of this would be to post ad hoc requests, until such time as we have a real job request system (which is a little premature). This way, a 3D modeller can post a request in the sound forums for some noises to go with a prop, or a texture artist can post a request in the code forums for a shader.

They can already do that. If you're part of any team, you have posting privs across all of the developer forums, not just the one for the group you're in.

Cool, thanks. I didn't know this because my request hadn't been approved yet. :)

You just have to set the group you want as your default from the user control panel. Your default group defines your pretty name color. Also, thank you for appreciating my color palette clicking skills.

Where do I do that? Is it under the usergroups tab? I can't find it...
