Modified Story v.2

Alright, here is my modified story.

Please take a look and tell me what you think, If you have any suggestions on
improving the story or see some corrections that could be made I am all ears :)

On 20 July 1969 moon landing marked marked the start of a new era of
conflict for humanity in the Great Lunar War (Orion class vessels vs Russian
Stalin class, initially started with moon and spread throughout solar system,
EU, India, China were also able to get territory). War lasted for 9 years
and saw the colonization of our solar system

On 3 August 1981 the DCPU16 (Or trillek's equivalent) was created.

March 23 1984 instabilities in the sun where detected, while it wasn't going
supernova it was generating more and more radiation.
It was concluded that in 10 years time Earth would be unable to support life,
and in 20 years all humans up to Mars were required to dig deep underground to
survive the radioactive effects. This lead to 2 factions forming, the first were
the diggers who aimed to live deep underground and wait till this instablility ended
while the Trilleks (Used as a derrogitory term since these were usually the more wealthy
of earths enhabitants and thus could afford the huge amount of ships and supplies required
for the journey) aimed to use their nucular bomb propulsion ships to get to star systems.

On September 12 the first Trillek convoy launched.

The journey to other star systems often took 40-80 years time,
and this was often done in convoys ranging from 100,000 to 1,000,000.
Because resources on the journey had to be controlled, no new technology
could be created.


Advantages of this story:
*Far more plausable then FTL
*Explains why we still use the older chip
*Gives us good branching
* What if convoy was near starvation and they found a planet what was habitable
but owned by an alien faction who wouldn't give food or supplies.
* What if they found a system with no habitable planet.
*Explains why their is more then one human in server.
*A good start to add to the characters story.

I like it. On board a convoy ship could be the starting point for the player, as there would be at least one in every system. How could there be locations, wreckage and loot already present in the system, though? Maybe you arrive in a second (or 3rd, 4th, 5th...) wave of colony ships. Or maybe you arrive in the 1st wave, to find an empty system.

Yah, its very possible you came in a wave or 2 behind. Especially assuming that there are 10 years time
convoys are leaving.

Other advantage is that the science could be stagnated in the travel, because "It's enough good", compartmentalized knowledge and learn by memorization (Like happens in this book : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathworld#Deathworld_2 ). A stagnaed science, explain why the computer tech don't evolved in the travel, or before the arrival.

Is their anything you think could be modified to make it a more richer story?
Do you see anything could be modified or improved?

Personally I would like a lot of feedback, even if its negative it helps
flesh things out a bit more.

Feedback: A more in depth explanation of why we had to leave Earth. Instead of the sun doing something mysterious, I'd prefer some serious climate change... it would tie in with the hype about Global Warming in the 1970's. Maybe the runaway greenhouse effect.

Dont worry, the story will definitely be fleshed out :)

At this point in time I'm looking for suggestions
and in about a week official recognition (no point working on the story
if the leadership doesn't like the idea or if another story has already been selected).

Once recognized, the story will be fleshed out to make it more interesting
as well as add some mysteries such as what happened with the digger faction etc.
It will then go to the leadership for final approval.

Any suggestion provided has a good chance of appearing on the near final draft.

As for a quick explanation about the sun. Long before the sun goes supernova, about the last 5th (guess) of the suns lifespan, it releases more and more radiation.
Basically the idea is to say that we miscalculated the suns lifespan, and while its nowhere near supernova yet, its still capable of killing all life on the surface.


Of course its not a closed deal yet. If someone gives a better idea its most certainly gonna end up being included :)

why the part about the people who dig into Mars? how do they tie into the story?
also, I thought FTL was a given in this game. going the speed of light, it would take about 70 years to reach pluto from here. how do we get around that?

Personally, i think it makes the story feel more genuine. It helps show how the Trillek are viewed, and why they are viewed in such a light. It makes the player wonder what happened to them, and lastly gives us something to tag an extra story too if there was an expansion to the game 50 years down the road.

As for FTL, the Orion class ship is capable of traveling 50% to 80% the speed of light and has an very fast acceleration speed, that should be able to handle most interstellar travel fairly effectively.
