Ok, here is an editable google doc version of the document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m69 ... DcyM/edit#

I simplified and standardized some of the formatting.
I added "(blank)" so you know where to fill in things and to preserve normal formatting.

    (blank)
  • 3.4 Programming Content
(Descriptions of all the custom programming content used in the game, in relatively-general terms. Best not to make it a complete run-down of all code, as that would require a document in and of itself.)
    (blank)
  • 3.5 Code Structure
    (blank)
  • 3.6 Concerns and alternatives (any possible concerns with the project)
    (blank)
  • 3.7 Technical Matrix

(I think a better place than gdocs or this forum for this document is the Wiki, or github, but this is a start.)

Doing it as Markdown (which works fine for something that doesn't need to be typeset beautifully) in a GitHub repo is actually a really good idea, IMO.

Thanks! Glad the markdown works well!

Here's a test of it on a Reddit Wiki. It has a nice default styling and adds a nav bar. So a wiki can work well too.

With GitHub, I do like the idea of being able to have issues on the design document, fork and work on alternate cohesive game designs.
I think it would give people an opportunity to mature some of the controversial ideas here and work them into a whole game design collaboratively-- then we/you can decide if that's the kind of game we/you want to build.

If the concern is splintering the community, perhaps fill in what we figured out already quick, and encourage people to build off of that... hopefully we can at least work on the same core game engine together and share a ton of code and maintenance efforts.

Can we make this template "CC BY-SA 3.0" DarkSpartan? Perhaps focus it on our project, and put in what we decided first?
GitHub and wiki's track credit but only until someone copies and pastes the text--
so we should keep track of sources/credits the best we can on each section, linking the forum, crediting inspiration etc... I'd put a rule at the start.

(For fun, I started to make a LaTeX version, but well, I didn't get too far yet... and I think markdown works well at this stage .)
